ABOUT ME
Hello and welcome to my practice! I'm Jami Sweeney, M.Ed, MA, LMHCA, a licensed mental health counselor with a focus on children and adolescents. My counseling approach is grounded in evidence-based treatments (more details on the Treatment Approaches page).
As a mental health counselor, my role encompasses assessing, diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health issues, along with advocating for my clients' access to opportunities and fulfillment. Beyond focusing solely on mental health, my approach incorporates elements from my progressive educational background and Comprehensive Sexuality Education training. This involves a developmental perspective, with significant emphasis on relational and executive functioning skills.
My qualifications include an M.Ed in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Kansas, an MA in Child and Adolescent Psychology from the University of Washington, and certifications in primary, elementary, adolescent, and administrative education from the Association Montessori Internationale. Additionally, I'm certified to teach Comprehensive Sexuality Education at all levels. My practical experience includes an internship at Youth Eastside Services in Bellevue, WA, and work in Bellevue and Lake Washington school districts. I'm also a member of the Washington Mental Health Counselor Association and the American Psychological Association.
Outside work, I find inspiration in spending time with family and friends, exploring the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest. Enjoying live music, comedy, theater, and great food also brings me immense joy!
